Callisto, adopted, grew up in Minrathous. Even in his childhood he always picked fights. Especially with those who tired bullying him for the vitiligo. Growing up with a veteran father and learning about the Grey Wardens he aspired to become one himself once he was old enough.
Time came and he was chosen to go through the ritual.
Callisto, a little uninformed of the whole process, went out to collect the darkspawn blood he was tasked to collect for himself. The more he talked with other soon to be Wardens he realized he had to drink what he was collecting. Effectively becoming blighted in a way. The thought scared him. Despite his wish to protect and urge to fight against the darkspawn and demons of this world he, in the end, couldn't pull through.
Right when he wanted returned to Minrathous he got note, that a group of Venatori had attacked parts of the city. Leading to chaos and destruction. In it unfortunately his childhood home. Callisto immediately travelled home and desperately searched for his parents, hoping they're still alive. That they'd made it out but he was never able to find them.
Later when the city of Minrathous had recovered from the attack, the bodies of his parents were eventually retrieved from the broken and burned down ruins.
Angered, saddened and driven by a need for vengeance for all the bad the Venatori did (not just the death of his parents but also everything else) he eventually decided that the right thing for him to do was stay here, in his hometown, and protect those who couldn't protect themselves. Thus leading to him joining the Shadow Dragons.
